The Derrick Gin Mill & Kitchen: A Cozy Culinary Retreat in Downtown Calgary

What a great evening out with another couple at the Derrick. A cozy, comfortable atmosphere where the staff makes you feel at home. Not a large menu but what is offered is different and done well. I enjoyed the fresh oysters and complimenting sauce, the beet salad and duck tacos. The cocktails were lovely. Felt well catered to as the bartender Franco made some wonderful creations for our needs. Definitely will be back again soon.

Nice stylish restaurant, the service was very nice, the beer was good and the beef tartar was also good. I recommend to visit

Really enjoyed the cocktails and the stuffed chicken breast. I was so happy they were OK with substituting vegetables in lieu of the starch & modifying my drink the way I wanted it. Excellent service and great ambiance.

We had a great time at this restaurant located on 8th Av, the heart of Calgary downtown. The food was good, and the salmon was the best. With a relaxed atmosphere, good food, a variety of drinks, and excellent service, it's worth a visit. For parking, the Core underground parkade is free after 3PM during weekdays and weekends. It is not accessible through the +15 system but very close, which is convenient in winter.

First time trying this place out and a very comprehensive gin list. Tried a mix of different martinis. Pricing could be laid out better as it doesn't match the menus compared to what you're charged and you don't actually know the cost of each martini in total. So that was a bit crap when you think a drink is going to be $17 but is actually $24..... You do get good theater for the drinks and the staff are really nice. Wouldn't say it would be a regular watering hole more of a special occasion.

The brussel sprouts and poutine appetizer (got full size) were nice but small. The Caesar salad was excellent and the lamb main plate was tasty. The beet salad with salmon was average but good.

Out-of-towner first time here around 6pm. Not busy...there were two tables likely that have been here earlier to take advantage of the happy hour menu. I will seated very quickly and was greeted by a very friendly and helpful hostess as well as server. I loved it when I saw the beef tartar on the menu, because that means that I can likely get my burger medium rare, which is what I ordered for my smoke hamburger. It was just simply delicious. The oysters were great as well and my bourbon cola sour sure hit the spot. Definitely want to come back to try a few other things on the menu
